“I arrived at my first session knowing nothing about SE. By the time I walked out I knew I was in the right place and for the first time, I knew for sure that I am a trauma survivor. I hadn't told Claudia my story, instead she'd helped me listen to my body. Memory and narrative are slippery, but the body cannot lie. When I doubt what we've discovered about my early life experience (as one of my closest friends does) I refer back to the session in which I lost the feeling in my legs, again, and felt my arms go limp. I refer to the howling wail that came out of guts like vomit. In the SE process, I don't need to remember in order to heal. It has been an enormous relief to be heard, to be seen, to be accepted. Claudia sees and accepts me. And I am slowly seeing and accepting myself. It's hard. Claudia creates a safe space in which I am able to access emotions that have been stored in my nervous system for fifty years. She's teaching me how to self-regulate. My relationship to my body, mind and emotions is changing. Thanks to her compassionate and skillful practice, SE is giving me new skills for being human. I am less and less likely to make personal and professional choices that are determined by past trauma. The process is liberating and empowering. I am profoundly grateful to everyone doing this work.
